Aftercare at Center for Hope of the Sierras
Alumni Intensives

As clinicians treating eating disorders, we realize that patients do experience lapses and relapses following residential treatment. The follow-up Alumni Intensives allow additional support to the patients following their departure from the Center. The follow-up intensives are individualized to the patients' needs, and are offered as an adjunct to outpatient treatment. Scheduled prior to patient departure, the Alumni Intensives allow the patient to return to the Center along with peers with whom they have bonded, and to reconnect with the environment and clinical team in order to address potential roadblocks they are experiencing on their path to recovery.
Through these intensives, we aim to help patients understand that lapses are common following residential treatment, and to help the patient view lapses as further opportunity for growth, rather than as a sign that they have either failed treatment or that treatment has failed them. By helping the patient to see lapses as an opportunity for growth, the feelings of failure or shame are diminished.
Creating a Meaningful Life

We believe that each patient will continue to grow and heal after they leave our doors. Continued recovery often depends on where you live, who you have relationships with, and what meaningful activities you engage in. If you don't have meaning in your life, that can invite the eating disorder back in. You have to find something to be passionate about.
From day one, we provide a weekly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Group to help each patient develop discharge plans that are consistent with their core values. Each resident will have health and values based aftercare and arrangements in place before leaving Center for Hope of the Sierras.
