In many cases, individuals who are battling an eating disorder do not even realize that their primary diagnosis is accompanied by a co-occurring disorder. In response to this problem, Center for Hope of the Sierras places a strong emphasis on conducting a thorough assessment prior to a client starting treatment. We believe that each client who receives care at our center is capable of living a happy, healthy life and that there is no limit when it comes to personal growth and self-improvement. The presence of an eating disorder and a co-occurring mental health disorder(s) can often thwart a person’s efforts to live the fulfilling life he or she deserves, which is why we have made ourselves equipped to treat the additional concerns that plague our clients.
The following co-occurring conditions are among those that we treat so that each adolescent, woman, and man can successfully recover from his or her patterns of disordered eating and additional mental health concerns:
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Borderline personality disorder
- Depressive disorders
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Posttraumatic stress disorder
- Substance use disorders
- Trauma-related concerns
Once we have identified all of the issues that may have contributed to, or been impacted by, a client’s eating disorder, we are prepared to provide a truly comprehensive treatment experience that will put him or her in the best possible position for achieving and maintaining healthy long-term recovery.
The focus on personalized care at Center for Hope of the Sierras allows us to ensure that our clients get the help that they need to not only to overcome their eating disorders, but also to effectively manage the symptoms of their co-occurring disorder(s). Each client who has a co-occurring disorder will follow a treatment plan that is specifically designed to address all of the issues that he or she is dealing with, and will work with treatment professionals who are trained and experienced in providing this level of care.
Individual therapy sessions provide an optimal environment for clients to process the progress that they are making in recovery, both from their eating disorder and their co-occurring disorders, and we also conduct a special co-occurring group on a regular basis. Clients whose eating disorder is accompanied by a substance use disorder will also have the opportunity to attend off-campus 12-Step meetings three to five times each week.
The objective for Center for Hope is not merely to treat a specific disorder, but also to provide the comprehensive solutions that will help our clients live the healthy and productive lives that they both desire and deserve. When a person who chooses to heal with us is dealing with one or more co-occurring disorders, we are committed to developing and implementing a treatment plan that will help that client manage and overcome all of the issues that have been preventing him or her from achieving a healthier future.
