If you have binge-eating disorder, you are likely well-acquainted with the painful effects of this powerful disorder. You probably do not need to be reminded of how severe its consequences can be. What you may need to hear, however, is that binge-eating disorder is not the end of the road. No matter how dark things may seem, there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow.
At Center for Hope of the Sierras, we hold true to the belief that healing is always possible. We respect the courage it takes to seek help, and we would be honored if you came to heal with us.
As you know, people with binge-eating disorder have extreme difficulty managing their eating. They will eat past the point of feeling full, but unlike those with bulimia, they do not force themselves to purge the extra calories from their bodies. Although one’s struggle with the disorder can feel overwhelming, there are treatment programs specially designed to help those with binge-eating disorder find freedom from their debilitating symptoms.
At Center for Hope of the Sierras, we have created a place where you can come and heal. Here, you can leave the symptoms of binge-eating disorder in the past and make great strides towards the recovered and healthy life that you are destined to have.
Types of Treatment Offered at Center for Hope of the Sierras
From the day we accepted our first client in 2003, Center for Hope of the Sierras has been dedicated to providing life-changing treatment to adolescents and adults who are struggling with binge-eating disorder. Housed in a beautiful, 10-bed, country-style home in a quiet neighborhood, Center for Hope is a nurturing and supportive environment in which you work in close collaboration with experienced professionals whose skills are surpassed only by their compassion and commitment to helping others.
Our treatment options include residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs for adolescent and adult males and females ages 16 and up (ages 14 and up for PHP and IOP). We are one of the very few programs in the nation that provide specialized treatment for individuals who are dealing with diabulimia, and we also welcome those who follow vegetarian or vegan diets, and those who have celiac disease.
Treatment at Center for Hope is rooted in the principles of intuitive eating. We seek to remove a dieting mentality, and we think of food as simply fuel for our bodies. We aim to restore joy and balance in your relationship with food and help you honor and take care of your body by providing it with the fuel it needs. Through the process of mending the relationship between you, your body, and food, intuitive eating provides a strong foundation for lifelong healthy eating habits.
At Center for Hope, you will receive comprehensive care that has been personalized to meet your specific needs. Depending upon your unique situation, you may follow a treatment plan that includes the following elements:
Medication management: If your binge-eating disorder is accompanied a by co-occurring mental health condition, you may benefit from having certain prescription medications incorporated into your treatment plan. Our medication management services include weekly meetings with a psychiatrist and ongoing medication management provided by registered nurses.
Individual therapy: As a residential client, you will receive three individual therapy sessions each week with your primary therapist. These individual sessions provide a valuable opportunity for you to process any successes or setbacks that you have experienced, as well as address any questions or concerns that you have about your treatment.
Group therapy: Group therapy is one of the primary forms of treatment at Center for Hope. Groups allow you to share your insights, learn from the experiences of others, and practice the new skills that will support long-term recovery from your binge-eating disorder. Residential clients participate in two to three group therapy sessions every day, Mondays to Fridays. Group therapy sessions, which are led by therapists and social workers, may focus on the following topics:
- Co-occurring disorders
- Mindful eating
- Recovery maintenance
- Life skills
- Process group
- Family systems
- Body image
- Anxiety management
- Music and art appreciation
Experiential therapies: Experiential therapy provides you with the opportunity to engage in activity-oriented experiences that may incorporate recreation or active education as part of the therapeutic process. Every week, residential clients at Center for Hope have several opportunities to participate in experiential therapies, such as the following:
- Creative expressions
- Music appreciation
- Cooking class
- Equine therapy (Nevada Assisted Equine Therapy is offered weekly)
- Yoga (offered one to two times per week)
At Center for Hope, we understand that residential care is just one step in the long-term process of recovering from binge-eating disorder. To ensure that you are able to successfully maintain and build upon the progress that you make with us, we begin planning for life after discharge the day that you start treatment.
Depending upon your specific objectives, as well as the progress that you make during treatment, discharge planning may include a range of aftercare options, including step-down treatment in our partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP), or referrals to community-based support services. To ensure that you have the support you need to make a healthy and productive transition, our staff aftercare coordinator follows up with you at regular intervals for six months following completion of residential treatment.
At Center for Hope of the Sierras, we respect the courage that it takes to enter treatment, we welcome each person who chooses to heal with us, and we pledge to remain true to our mission of providing a nurturing and supportive environment where you are treated with the utmost dignity and compassion.
