Since the day that Center for Hope of the Sierras opened in 2003, we have been steadfast in our mission to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for adolescents, men, and women who are suffering from eating disorders and co-occurring conditions. We believe that people are more than the disorders they battle, and feel our clients are unique individuals who are capable of truly transforming their lives for the better. It is because of this belief that we offer care in a supportive environment that nurtures each client’s spirit in such a way that lasting healing and recovery is possible for all who choose our center for treatment.
Center for Hope’s life-changing treatment features various levels of care including residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs. Our approach to eating disorder recovery focuses on helping each client remove the dieting mentality and develop an intuitive, mindful eating philosophy. We view food as no more than fuel for our bodies, and instill in our clients a desire to honor their own bodies by proving them with the nourishment needed to be healthy.
Center for Hope is also one of the few programs in the nation that provides specialized treatment for individuals who are struggling with diabulimia, or co-occurring Type 1 diabetes and an eating disorder. All staff members are trained to care for people with diabetes, and we check our clients’ blood sugars and carbohydrate ratios at each meal. We provide a special diabetes group each week and tailor activity levels to meet the needs of our clients with diabetes. We also employ an endocrinologist and a registered dietitian. In addition to providing care for diabulimia, we are one of the few residential programs that accommodate individuals who follow vegan or vegetarian diets, or have celiac disease.
In choosing Center for Hope to begin your life anew, free from the emotional and psychical constraints of an eating disorder, you can expect to partake in one or more of the following levels of care:
Our residential program takes place in 10-bed house with a spacious, open floor plan set in the picturesque foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Residential treatment at Center for Hope is designed for men and women, ages 16 and older, with a primary eating disorder diagnosis, and includes a variety of therapies that empower clients to grow into their true selves.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
PHP treatment is available to male and female clients, ages 14 and older, who have a primary eating disorder diagnosis. Our PHP services include the same treatment options as our residential program, but PHP is designed for clients who do not require 24/7 support. PHP is an excellent treatment option for those who desire to refine the skills learned in residential care so that lasting recovery can be achieved.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
The IOP level of care at Center for Hope is designed for clients who are nearly ready to transition into independent living with support from referrals in their communities. IOP, which is open to males and females ages 14 and up, consists of four hours of care each day, seven days per week. Registered nurses conduct weekly medication assessments and are available for help with refills. The goal of IOP is to arm clients with the confidence and recovery skills needed to be successful in their recovery journeys long after leaving our center.
The partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) are held in an office about three miles from our residential center and we provide transportation to and from treatment for our PHP and IOP clients. For our clients with co-occurring substance abuse struggles, we also provide transportation to and from 12-step meetings, three to five times per week.
At Center for Hope, our success is measured by our clients’ success in achieving the lives they both desire and deserve. We are committed to helping you realize that you are a strong, creative, and unique individual who is not defined by your struggles, and that brighter days are ahead.
