Our Programs at Center for Hope of the Sierras

We offer innovative and extensive programs and opportunities for self-exploration, self-expression, and the development of a meaningful and worthwhile lifestyle for each patient.

We believe that patients with eating disorders are unique, creative, caring, and sensitive individuals who may struggle to find a connection with their true inner spirit. To recover from an eating disorder, the person must develop a sense of their own individual spirit and self, and a belief that their emotions are valid, important, and worth noticing.

On their unique path to recovery, patients are encouraged to choose to redefine life in terms, which are of true value and meaning to them, rather than as a response to cultural pressures to pursue a body size and shape that denies their physical and personal needs. Health of mind and body will begin to evolve as one's unique and individual sense of self begins to emerge. It is a this point that true healing can begin.

Our staff is carefully selected for their compassionate nature and clinical competence. Many of our staff members have experienced their own struggle and success with the disease and thus bring a unique perspective in providing compassionate care. They include a registered dietitian, nursing staff, residential counselors and an internist. Individual therapists specializing in the fields of yoga, massage, equine, art and music and other health and recreational areas round out the staff of the Center.

Recreational Equine Experience:

The Center recognizes that building connections to animals can play an important role in the reconnection to the self and others. During this outdoor experience, participants interact with animals, nature, and each other in ways that have an incredible impact on the individual and the group. This unique experience helps participants to become more grounded in the importance and values of their lives and the meaning of their recovery process.

Community Connections:

This volunteer opportunity provides a "real-life" experience for patients to find meaning in their lives outside of body preoccupation. It allows patients to sense and develop their own competence and meaningfulness through helping others. Additionally, this program provides patients the means for interaction with the outside world while in treatment, thereby increasing self-confidence and self-reliance in preparation for returning to their homes and communities.

Transition Program:

The Transitional Program is an opportunity for patients to apply the skills they learned during their residential stay to a more real-life living situation. Transitional patients live outside of the Center, but attend activities and therapy sessions. Transition is an optional program — this is only available to patients who process through residential treatment and meet our transition selection criteria. Several of the benefits of enrollment in the transition program include participation in transition group several nights throughout the week, offering a highly individualized and supportive environment, helping patients cope with the new challenges that arise as they step further into independent living.

Additional Unique Offerings:

Patients participate in Meditative Walking, Meditation, Yoga, Yogarate, Massage, and Facials while at the Center for Hope. These treatment methods are designed to encourage self-care, self-respect, and an appreciation for the role of a gentle and mindful lifestyle.
